Description

West Nile Virus (WNV) poses a significant threat to horses nationwide because it is carried throughout the country by infected birds during migration. Mosquitoes become infected after feeding on infected birds, and can then transmit the virus to horses. Vaccination remains the most effective way to help protect horses against WNV.

West Nile Innovator® + EWT is for the vaccination of healthy horses and foals 10 months of age or older as an aid in the prevention of the following diseases of horses:

  • West Nile Virus infection
  • Eastern Equine Encephalomyelitis
  • Western Equine Encephalomyelitis
  • Tetanus

  • This equine vaccine contains a killed virus and does not require reconstitution prior to administration. West Nile Innovator® + EWT is adjuvanted with MetaStim®, which reduces the potential for injection site reactions. In addition, this high quality vaccine may be administered to pregnant mares.

    Useful Information

Horses, inject one 1 mL dose intramuscularly using aseptic technique. Administer a second 1 mL dose 3 to 4 weeks after the first dose. A 1 mL booster dose should be given annually. Early revaccination may be advisable when horses are faced with an outbreak or with other conditions which might make heavy exposure likely.

Store in the dark at 2° to 7°C (35° to 45°F). AVOID FREEZING. SHAKE WELL. Use entire contents when first opened. In some instances, transient local reactions may occur at the injection site. Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter. In case of anaphylactoid reaction, administer epinephrine.
