FAQ

Denosyl is available enteric-coated tablets for cats and dogs.

The liver participates in many activities within the body. It helps the digestion of food through production of bile and helps change digested foods into substances used by the body for energy and growth. The liver also helps process some medications into material(s) that can be used by the body; the liver may assist in eliminating medications from the body once they have had their effect. The liver stores vitamins and minerals and works with sugar (carbohydrates, glucose), fats and proteins. It also helps maintain proper blood clotting and removes many body toxins from the blood. Without proper liver function, the pet's health is compromised.

Because it does so much, the liver may be subject to many things: injury, both direct and indirect, infection, and toxicity. Some of the signs and symptoms of compromised liver function in pets may include: weakness, vomiting, poor appetite, and/or seizures. But if there is mild or early stage liver compromise, the pet can appear normal. If you notice any of these symptoms or your pet is just acting differently, you should contact your veterinarian. Many veterinarians run screening tests for middle aged and older patients during the annual examination to ensure that organ function is normal.

Your veterinarian will advise you as to the amount to initially administer. Depending on your pet's response and status, your veterinarian may eventually adjust this amount to meet your pet's individual needs. Remember, Denosyl enteric-coated tablets should not be broken. When increasing or decreasing their administration, adjustments should be done in full tablet increments. Some pets are given Denosyl only for a short period of time, although Denosyl may be used longer in other animals.
While response varies, owners may note a change in their pet’s appetite, activity, and attitude.
Your veterinarian will likely recommend follow-up examinations, blood work, and/or other laboratory work to check on how well your pet is doing with Denosyl and how it may be helping to support your pet’s liver function.
Denosyl has been shown to be well-tolerated by both dogs and cats with a wide margin of safety.
Yes, your veterinarian may recommend combining Denosyl with other products and/or dietary modifications. There are no known adverse interactions of Denosyl with drugs or other supplements. Denosyl may even protect against negative effects on the liver caused by some medications.
While other S-Adenosylmethionine (SAMe) products are available, there can be a significant variance in product quality and activity levels of SAMe. Denosyl is produced using high-quality, researched ingredients and under strict manufacturing standards.
Administration of methionine is not recommended. Providing high levels of methionine to pets with liver compromise may not increase the production of natural S-Adenosylmethionine and has been shown in some cases to increase liver damage.

Denosyl Keeps my Sheltie Healthy
January 25, 2011
Denosyl was recommended by a veterinarian specialist in internal problems to help regulate liver enzyme levels in my sheltie, Sara. She has vacular liver diseas, as well as an undersized liver, and became very ill at age one. Since then,she\'s been doing well and takes Denosyl along with Marin daily. She is now eight years old, and we are pleased that this drug has heped her condition.

KEEPS MY DOG HEALTHY
February 10, 2009
My Minn Pinn was close to dying from a bad liver 2 years ago. After many tests and fluids and medications, one of which was Denosyl, he is doing great! I have decided to keep in on Denosyl for ever! Through the advice of my Vet of course. I give him 1 pill a day in the morning the 225 mg and this has kept his liver functioning properly!
I love the prices on Healthy Pets also.. can\'t bet them!
