T8 Solution, containing Tetrasodium Edetate (EDTA), is an ideal adjunctive treatment for otitis externa, especially in cases of gram-negative infections such as Pseudomonas spp, Proteus spp, Escherichia Coli, and Klebsiella spp. Frequently, these cases become chronic and difficult to treat with topical formulations that are currently available because the bacteria associated with these infections develop multiple antibiotic resistance. Also, many antibiotics are inactivated or become less effective at the low pH level found in the exudate commonly associated with cases of gram-negative otitis externa. The low pH in acidifying ear cleansers may also lessen the activity of antibiotics if rinsed prior to application of the medication.
