Advantage flea control is an adulticide, meaning it kills adult fleas. Flea larval stages in the environment are also killed upon contact with skin debris shed from the coat of the pet. 98-100% of adult fleas are killed within 12 hours of application. It works by interfering with the flea's nervous system causing it to die. After applying the liquid to the skin from a premeasured applicator tube, it spreads on the skin surface at the level of hair follicles until it covers the whole body. Pets do not have to bitten for the fleas to be killed.
According to Bayer, Advantage remains effective after swimming, shampooing or exposure to rain or sunlight. If you are planning to bathe your pet the same day, however, we recommend you should bathe first then apply Advantage when the pet is dry.
Advantage can be used on puppies starting at 7 weeks and kittens starting at 8 weeks. Each packet has a 4 month supply.
How to apply: For cats and kittens, part your pet's hair and apply Advantage to the back of the neck at the base of the skull. For dogs and puppies, part your pet's hair and apply between shoulder blades. For dogs and puppies over 21 lbs., apply evenly to 3 or 4 spots on the top of the back from the shoulder to the base of the tail. Part hair and apply directly on skin at each spot.
